Why now

The tools finally got cheap enough.

For decades, the marketing, the receptionist, the social team, the bookkeeper — all the things that make a business look big — were only for businesses that already were. That just changed. We built Sorted By AI to hand that whole machine to the firms it was always out of reach for.

The problem we kept seeing

Walk down any high street or scroll any trade directory and you'll find brilliant small businesses being beaten by worse ones. The better plumber loses to the one who answers the phone. The better salon loses to the one with fresh reviews. The better builder is invisible because their website is slow and their last social post was two years ago. None of it is about the quality of the work. It's about everything around the work — the bit nobody has time for.

Big companies solved this long ago by hiring people: a marketing team, a receptionist, an agency, an accounts department. A two-to-ten-person business can't do that. So the owner tries to be all of those people at nine o'clock at night, does each one badly, burns out, and lets most of it slide. We thought that was unfair, and we thought it was fixable.

Why this is possible now, and wasn't before

Three things shifted at once. First, AI got good enough to do real work — write in your voice, answer a phone naturally, keep books tidy — not as a gimmick but as a tool you'd actually trust. Second, the cost of running that AI collapsed. The same capability that would have cost a company tens of thousands a year a decade ago now costs pennies a task. And third, the way customers find businesses started changing — away from the directories and towards Google's map and, increasingly, AI assistants.

Put those together and a small window opens. The expensive machine is suddenly cheap to run, and the rules of being found are being rewritten while most small firms aren't watching. The businesses that move now get an advantage that's hard to catch later. That's the "why now".

What we decided to build

We could have built another piece of software and left owners to operate it — another login on the pile they already ignore. We deliberately didn't. Faceless tools are the problem, not the solution. So we built an operating company dressed as a service: the AI does the work, a real person keeps it honest, and the owner gets one bill and one human to talk to.

Everything is joined up on purpose. A call becomes a job, a job becomes a post, a post earns a review, a review lifts the ranking, the finished work raises an invoice and tidies the books. The owner touches one thing — a photo — and watches the rest run from the app.

Who it's for

The two-to-ten-person business. Trades, salons, clinics, cleaners, garages, studios — the people who are great at the actual job and shouldn't have to be great at marketing, IT and admin too. If that's you, the work you do already deserves to be seen. We just make sure it is.

How we work

Plainly and honestly. No jargon, no call centre, no contract you can't get out of. We tell you the truth in the audit, we price it flat so there are no surprises, and if it doesn't pay for itself you walk away. That's the whole deal.
